Using AI to Plan a Beginner Workout Routine

ON RAMP AI · BLOG

I've started and quit more workout plans than I'd like to admit, usually because the plan I found online assumed I had a full home gym or ninety minutes a day, and I have neither. Most fitness content is written for people who are already fit, which is a strange audience to write for if the goal is getting people started.

What worked better was being honest with an AI chatbot about my actual situation: I deliver packages for a living so I'm on my feet a lot but not doing anything structured, I have thirty minutes a few times a week, and the only equipment I own is a set of resistance bands somebody gave me two Christmases ago that I never opened. I asked it to build something realistic around that, not an aspirational plan I'd quit in a week.

It gave me a simple three-day-a-week routine using just the bands and bodyweight moves, with clear instructions on form since I'm not walking into this with any real background in it. When something didn't make sense to me, I asked it to explain the move differently or suggest an easier version, and it did, without making me feel like I should already know this.

None of this replaces an actual doctor or physical therapist if you've got a real injury or health condition to work around — that conversation needs a professional, not a chatbot. But for the basic "I want to start moving more and don't know where to begin" problem, having something build a plan around your actual life instead of a stranger's idea of fitness has kept me going longer than any app I've paid for.

If you want the slow, no-jargon version of all this — the stuff I wish someone had handed me before I fumbled through it myself — that's exactly what I built On Ramp AI for. Check it out here.
