Then go try something similar yourself afterward, on your own terms, with your own real question. If they used AI to help with a history report, try using it to research something you're curious about. If they used it to generate images for fun, that's a different tool than what I teach, but you can still ask plainly what the difference is and get a straight answer.
The goal isn't to outpace a teenager who grew up with this stuff. It's to not be the only person at the table who's never touched it. That shift alone changes a lot of family dynamics — you go from "the grandparent who doesn't get it" to someone who can actually ask a decent follow-up question.
