How to Start Using AI at 60: A Step-by-Step First Session

ON RAMP AI · BLOG

If you're 60 and ready to actually try this instead of just hearing about it, here's a real first session, step by step, no skipped assumptions.

Open Claude (or whichever AI chat tool you've got access to). You'll see an empty box, usually near the bottom of the screen, waiting for you to type. There's nothing else to figure out first — no manual, no setup screen.

Type one real, specific thing. Not "teach me about AI." Something like: "Can you help me write a short, polite email asking my doctor's office to reschedule an appointment?" Hit enter or tap send.

Read the response. It'll usually be a full draft, ready to copy. If something's off — too formal, too long, missing a detail — just say so in plain words: "make it shorter" or "add that I'm out of town next week." It'll revise on the spot, no need to start over.

That's session one, start to finish. From there, you just repeat it with real things as they come up: a confusing bill, a message to a family member, a question you've been meaning to look up. Each time, you get a little faster and a little more comfortable with how to ask for what you want.

If you'd rather have that first session — and the fifteen after it — laid out for you instead of winging it alone, that's exactly what On Ramp AI walks you through. Check it out here.
