AI for New Parents Running on No Sleep

A coworker had his first kid earlier this year and described the first few months as "a hundred small logistics problems while running on no sleep," from figuring out a feeding schedule to just keeping track of which pediatrician appointments were coming up.

He and his wife started using an AI chatbot for the purely logistical side of it — building a simple tracking system for feedings and diaper changes when their brains were too tired to remember what they'd already done that hour, and drafting a message to family members setting boundaries on visits without sounding harsh, since everyone wanted to come meet the baby immediately.

He was clear that anything actually medical — feeding concerns, developmental questions, anything about the baby's health — went straight to their pediatrician, no exceptions, because that's not a place to guess. The chatbot's job was strictly the logistics: schedules, communication, the administrative side of new parenthood nobody warns you about.

What helped most, he said, was having something to offload the mental load of remembering everything onto when neither of them had the brain capacity for it at 3am. Not a substitute for the actual parenting, just a place to park the logistics so they weren't also trying to hold all of it in their sleep-deprived heads.

The early months of parenting are as much a logistics problem as an emotional one, and the logistics problem is solvable in ways the exhaustion sometimes makes hard to see. A little help with that side frees up energy for the part that actually needs you present.

If you want the slow, no-jargon version of all this — the stuff I wish someone had handed me before I fumbled through it myself — that's exactly what I built On Ramp AI for. Check it out here.
